GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season on Thursday afternoon, falling 7–0 to No. 3 Case Western Reserve University on Henderson Courts in Georgetown, Texas.
The Pirates opened the match with a strong showing at No. 1 doubles. Joseph Snyman and Christo Langford secured Southwestern's lone doubles victory of the afternoon, defeating Trey Lambright and Bryce Ware 7–5 in a tightly contested match.
Case Western Reserve answered in the remaining doubles courts to claim the point. At No. 2 doubles, Derek Shiffer and Sant. Salazar Garza defeated Landon Sosebee and Ashton Ellis 6–2, while Rohan Bhat and Leon Chen earned a 6–3 win over Bernie Clemente and Sebastian Herrera at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, the nationally ranked Spartans controlled the momentum, taking all six courts in straight sets.
At No. 1 singles, Sant. Salazar Garza defeated Nathan Qi 6–2, 6–1. Jon Totorica followed with a 6–4, 6–2 victory over Porter Arens at the No. 2 position. Bryce Ware secured another point for Case Western Reserve with a 6–4, 6–2 win against Ashton Ellis at No. 3 singles.
Rowan Matorin earned a 6–4, 6–3 win over Bernie Clemente at No. 4 singles, while Derek Shiffer defeated Nolan Alvarez 6–2, 6–1 at No. 5. The final point came from Josh Davydov, who topped Hai Vo 6–1, 6–3 at No. 6 singles.
