GEORGETOWN, TEXAS — Southwestern women's tennis opened Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play on Saturday, falling 7-0 on the road to Sewanee. With the result, the Pirates move to 6-6 overall and 0-1 in conference action.
In doubles play, Sewanee secured the early advantage by sweeping all three courts. At No. 1 doubles, Isa Cepeda and Daryl Locke were defeated 6-0 by Mariella Congeni and Ivy Wilson. Lilly Perkins and Katia Childs dropped a 6-1 decision at the No. 2 position to Emma Foster and Lucy Lee, while Addison Powell and Kimberly Duncan fell 6-3 at No. 3 doubles to Lexi Barbee and Harper High.
The Tigers carried that momentum into singles competition, claiming all six matches. At the top spot, Cepeda fell to Congeni in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Locke dropped her No. 2 singles match 6-3, 6-1 to High. Duncan battled in the closest match of the day at No. 3 singles, forcing a third set after taking the second 6-2, but ultimately fell 6-1, 2-6, 1-0.
Perkins pushed her opponent at No. 4 singles but came up short in a tight contest, 7-6, 7-5. Childs fell 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, and Powell rounded out the lineup with a 6-0, 6-1 loss at No. 6.
