Run-Rule Rampage: Pirates Take Two at Sewanee

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University softball team dominated on Saturday, taking both games of a doubleheader against Sewanee on the road. The Pirates used five-inning run-rule victories of 9-0 and 12-3 to secure the series win and send a strong message early in conference play.

GAME 1 – Southwestern 9, Sewanee 0 (5 inn.)

Southwestern jumped out quickly in game one, scoring three runs in the first inning to set the tone. Sophia Ytuarte delivered a two-RBI single, and Izabella Hernandez added an RBI knock to put the Pirates ahead 3-0.

The offense continued in the second inning as Allie Fields, Calle Collier, and Daniella Clark all drove in runs, extending the lead to 6-0. Southwestern added three more in the fourth, highlighted by Mattie Wilkie's two-RBI double and a two-out RBI double from Ytuarte to make it 9-0.

The Pirates finished with 11 hits and committed no errors, while Sewanee managed only a single hit.

GAME 2 – Southwestern 12, Sewanee 3 (5 inn.)

The Pirates' bats stayed hot in the second game, exploding for six runs in the first inning. Emery Bell doubled in two runs, and Allie Fields and Darby Burke each drove in runs to give Southwestern an early advantage. Kaydence Garza and Aryana Dunkelberger also plated runs on RBI singles and errors to make it 6-0.

Sewanee responded with three runs across the first two innings, but Southwestern regained control in the third with RBIs from Dunkelberger and a run scored on a stolen base by Collier. The Pirates put the game out of reach in the fifth, scoring four runs highlighted by a two-RBI single from Daniella Clark and additional RBIs from Macey Gilman and Sophia Ytuarte to secure the 12-3 run-rule win.
