WLAX Falls Short Against Whitman At Home, 16-3

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Women's Lacrosse lost on Thursday afternoon against a dynamic Whitman College squad at home, 16-3. 

The Pirates ran into a strong Blues squad who also beat UMass Boston this week by nine. Senior Elaina Seeley scored the Pirates first goal on a free position shot as the Pirates played a sound first quarter down 2-1. However, the Blues manufactured six unanswered goals in the second quarter as the Pirates trailed 8-1 at halftime. 

Whitman scored the first four goals of the second half before freshman Taryn Hopkins scored her second goal of the season. Sophomore Wenny Stein scored to open the fourth for her third goal of the season. The Blues scored the final four goals despite sophomore goalie Hannah Colvin totaling an incredible 18 saves. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Colvin came one save short of tying her own single-game saves record, which is 19. 
  • The sophomore is averaging an incredible 14.33 saves per home game. 
  • Seeley collected three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
