GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Baseball scored an incredible 19 unanswered runs in the SAA opener against Oglethorpe University, 19-2. The Pirates collect the programs first SAA victory after joining the new conference this year.
Southwestern makes a monumental statement to the league, dominating the Petrels with a run-rule victory posting 19 runs on 15 hits and five long balls. The Petrels came into the weekend at 8-7 overall as the Pirates were 4-13.
Sophomore
Darion Rogers got the start after a breakout performance last weekend, allowing one run in eight innings. The sophomore surrendered two runs in the opening frame. However, Southwestern punched back to tie the game in the first led by senior
Connor Duffey's homerun to right center. In the third, junior
Owen Stevenson swatted a two-run homer which traveled 415 feet.
The fourth inning was hit parade as the Pirates scored nine runs. Freshman

Tres Organ, and Duffey manufactured RBI's before Stevenson crushed his second homerun of the game to take a 10-2 lead. The junior first basemen has seven long balls on the season with five in his last four games. Freshman
Alex Ervesun smoked his first career homerun, before junior
Ben Feuer hit a sacrifice fly which made the lead 13-2.
Duffey capped off the night with a three-run shot to right for a multi-homer game. The Pirates scored a season-high 19 runs in a picture perfect start to the SAA slate. Rogers settled in and delivered six straight scoreless innings on the mound with only one earned run in seven innings pitched.
