GEORGETOWN, TEXAS — The Southwestern University women's tennis team battled hard on the courts today in Orlando, Florida but came up just short, falling 2–5 to Coe College in a competitive matchup. The Pirates showed determination and fought for every point, keeping multiple matches close throughout the day.
Southwestern started the match strong by claiming two of the three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, Isa Cepeda and Daryl Locke set the tone with a 6–4 victory over Addison Leasure and Aisha Gurung. At No. 3 doubles, Kimberly Duncan and Addison Powell dominated Cosette Gaines and Alli Hagness 6–0. Coe College captured the No. 2 doubles point as Sophia Fain and Alice Tysoe defeated Katia Childs and Lilly Perkins 6–3.
The Pirates continued to compete in singles, highlighted by a straight-set win from Isa Cepeda at the top spot, defeating Sophia Fain 6–4, 6–2. Daryl Locke battled to a third-set tiebreak at No. 2 singles but ultimately fell 4–6, 7–0, 9–11 to Addison Leasure. Kimberly Duncan and Lilly Perkins each fought hard but dropped their matches 3–6, 2–6 and 4–6, 2–6, respectively. Addison Powell and Katia Childs also came up short, falling 1–6, 1–6 and 2–6, 4–6.
Despite the setback, Southwestern displayed grit and competitive spirit across all courts, gaining valuable experience as the team looks ahead.
