Pirates Drop Tuesday Doubleheader to St. Olaf

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University softball team dropped a Tuesday doubleheader against St. Olaf College at Taylor-Sanders Field, falling 4–2 in extra innings in game one before a 10–6 loss in game two. The Pirates held leads in both contests but were unable to hold off late pushes from the Oles.

GAME 1 – St. Olaf 4, Southwestern 2 (8 innings)

Southwestern struck first in the opening inning when Sophia Ytuarte lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Calle Collier for a 1–0 lead.

St. Olaf evened the score in the third inning on an RBI single by Elle Brandt, and the game remained tied through seven innings. In the eighth, the Oles broke through as Brandt launched a two-run home run to left center. Joy Jung followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 4–1.

The Pirates answered in the bottom half of the inning when Daniella Clark singled to right field to bring home Aryana Dunkelberger, but Southwestern was unable to complete the comeback, falling 4–2.

GAME 2 – St. Olaf 10, Southwestern 6

St. Olaf jumped out to an early 3–0 lead through the first three innings before Southwestern responded with a four-run third inning to take control.

Izabella Hernandez started the rally with an RBI single, followed by a two-run triple from Emery Bell. Macey Gilman added a sacrifice RBI to give the Pirates a 4–3 lead.

After the Oles tied the game in the fourth, Southwestern regained the lead in the fifth when Aryana Dunkelberger delivered an RBI single down the left field line to make it 5–4.

St. Olaf responded with a decisive six-run sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run home run from Brandt, to take a 10–5 lead. Southwestern plated one final run in the bottom half on an RBI single from Gilman but could not close the gap.
