WLAX Falters In Second Half Against Ohio Northern, 17-6

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Women's Lacrosse was out scored 10-2 in the second half against Ohio Northern University to fall on Thursday night at home, 17-6. 

The Pirates jumped on the Polar Bears to start the game as senior Susette Mireles and junior Sydney Martin scored on back-to-back possessions in the first 90 seconds. However, the talented ONU squad roared back, scoring six unanswered goals. Martin scored another unassisted goal to cut the deficit in half after the first quarter. 

Both teams only tallied one goal in the second quarter as the Pirates defense only allowed one shot on net. Freshman Nia Trevillion scored on an excellent pass from senior Katie Pratt from behind the net. The Pirates trailed 7-4 at half. 

The Polar Bears took advantage of multiple man-up up scenarios with six unanswered goals in the second half. Senior Grace Van Dinter and Martin scored the lone Pirates second half goals as ONU iced the victory. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Martin has scored three or more goals in four games this year. 
  • The junior has found the back of the net in all six contests this year with 16 goals. 
  • Senior Kati Rzasnicki had another strong game with a career-high seven ground balls. 
  • Senior Elaina Seeley and sophomore Wenny Stein each forced three turnovers. 
  • Sophomore Hannah Colvin finished with ten saves for her fourth straight game with double-digit saves.
