WLAX Falls Against Suffolk, Colvin Breaks Single-Game Saves Record

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Women's Lacrosse made a second half push but ultimately fell short against a tough Suffolk University squad on Tuesday night, 17-7. The Pirates fall to 1-4 overall on the year.

Despite the loss, sophomore Hannah Colvin was fantastic with a program single-game record of 19 saves on the night. The previous record was 18 saves, which was held by Tessa Lewis (2022) and McKenna Zinke (2019). The sophomore continues to excel with 46 saves in her past three games.

Senior Elaina Seeley and sophomore Sydney Martin both scored in the first quarter, but the Rams countered with six goals of their own. The Pirates failed to score in the second quarter as they entered halftime with a 9-2 deficit.

The third quarter was strong for the Pirates as Martin scored a wrap around goal to open the scoring. Freshman Taryn Hopkins scored her first career goal on a free position shot. Then, senior Grace Van Dinter scored to narrow the Pirates deficit to four. The Pirates kept the Rams scoreless for 13 minutes, before Suffolk s found the net to end the third quarter with a score of 10-5.

Despite multiple saves from Colvin, second efforts and close range shots led to six straight Suffolk goals. However, the Suffolk offense was too dynamic taking the victory.
