GEORGETOWN, TEXAS — The Southwestern University women's tennis team battled against No. 35 Haverford College on Monday afternoon at Henderson Courts but ultimately fell 5–2. With the loss, the Pirates drop a hard-fought match after competing closely with the nationally ranked opponent.
Southwestern started the match with a solid showing in doubles action. At No. 1 doubles, Isa Cepeda and Daryl Locke earned a 6–4 victory over Jolie Zink and Adelaide Kreutel. Haverford responded by taking the remaining two courts, as Natalia Chapa and Abhishree Menon defeated Lilly Perkins and Katia Childs 6–4 at No. 2 doubles, while Mallika Reddy and Aarti Prochnow secured a 6–1 win over Kimberly Duncan and Addison Powell at No. 3 to claim the doubles point for the Fords.
In singles play, Southwestern earned two victories in the middle of the lineup. At No. 3 singles, Kimberly Duncan delivered a strong performance with a straight-set win over Adelaide Kreutel, 6–2, 6–1. Lilly Perkins followed with another Pirate point at No. 4 singles, grinding out a tight second-set tiebreak to defeat Sophie Capone, 6–3, 7–6 (7–3).
The remaining singles matches were closely contested but went in favor of Haverford. At No. 1 singles, Jolie Zink defeated Isa Cepeda in three sets, 2–6, 6–2, 6–4. At No. 2 singles, Aarti Prochnow edged Daryl Locke, 6–2, 3–6, 6–4. Katia Childs fell to Erika Phanord 6–4, 6–2 at No. 5 singles, while Sriya Krishnan defeated Addison Powell in three sets at No. 6 singles, 4–6, 6–2, 6–4.
