GEORGETOWN, TEXAS — Southwestern University women's tennis bounced back in strong fashion on Sunday afternoon, defeating Hardin-Simmons University at Henderson Courts to improve to 3-2 on the season. The Pirates responded after Friday night's loss to Concordia with a complete team performance, sweeping doubles play and securing five singles victories to clinch the match.
Southwestern set the tone early by capturing all three doubles courts to earn the early advantage. At No. 1 doubles, Daryl Locke and Isa Cepeda delivered a decisive 6-2 win over Sydney Tomlin and Brenna Gordon. Katia Childs and Lilly Perkins followed with a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles against Taylor Levy and Halle Smith, while Addison Powell and Kimberly Duncan completed the sweep at No. 3 doubles with a 6-3 win over Emma Curiel and Allie Dunn.
In singles action, the Pirates continued their momentum with dominant performances across the lineup. Kimberly Duncan earned a convincing 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles, and Isa Cepeda controlled her match at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win. Lilly Perkins battled back after dropping the first set at No. 4 singles, rallying for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 comeback victory.
Katia Childs delivered one of the day's most competitive matches at No. 5 singles, securing a hard-fought 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) win, while Addison Powell closed out the scoring with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles. Hardin-Simmons claimed its lone point at No. 1 singles, where Sydney Tomlin defeated Daryl Locke, 6-4, 6-4.
With the win, Southwestern improves to 3-2 overall, showing resilience and depth across both doubles and singles play.
