GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University softball team split a Saturday doubleheader against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, claiming a 5–3 victory in game one before falling 9–1 in the second contest.
The Pirates used an early offensive surge and strong pitching to take the opener, highlighted by a three-RBI performance from Macey Gilman. UMHB responded in game two with a decisive sixth inning to secure the split.
GAME 1 – Southwestern 5, UMHB 3
Southwestern jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Emery Bell delivered an RBI single that brought home Calle Collier, before Macey Gilman doubled down the left-field line to drive in Bell and Sophia Ytuarte and extend the Pirates' lead to 3–0.
Mary Hardin-Baylor got on the board in the third inning when Addy Todd stole third and scored on a defensive error, trimming the lead to 3–1.
The Pirates responded in the fourth inning as Gilman launched a solo home run to push the lead to 4–1. Southwestern added another run in the fifth when Allie Fields grounded out to shortstop, allowing Daniella Clark to score and make it 5–1.
UMHB attempted a late comeback, plating runs in the fifth and sixth innings on RBI singles from Macy Alewine and Ava Jolley, but the Pirates held on for the 5–3 win.
In the circle, Sophia Ytuarte earned the victory after pitching six innings, allowing three runs (one earned) while striking out six. Kenzie Dees closed the game with a scoreless seventh inning, striking out two batters to earn her first save of the season.

GAME 2 – UMHB 9, Southwestern 1
Mary Hardin-Baylor jumped ahead early, scoring two runs in the first inning on an RBI single from Ryleigh Mills and a Southwestern error.
The Pirates cut into the deficit in the fifth inning when Calle Collier singled to left field to drive in Mattie Wilkie and make it 2–1.
However, the Crusaders responded with a breakout sixth inning, scoring six runs to extend the lead. The rally included an RBI hit-by-pitch from Mills, a stolen home by Ava Perlinger, and RBI doubles from Addy Todd and Brielle Moreland.
UMHB added another RBI single during the inning to cap the nine-run output and secure the 9–1 victory.
Daniella Clark led the Pirates offensively with a 2-for-3 performance, while Collier recorded Southwestern's lone RBI.
