Southwestern Rolls to 73–39 SAA Win Against Rhodes

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University women's basketball put on a dominant performance Sunday afternoon, rolling past Rhodes College 73–39 inside the Robertson Center in a key Southern Athletic Association victory.

The Pirates jumped out early and never looked back, outscoring Rhodes 24–15 in the opening quarter and continuing to build separation throughout the afternoon. After taking a 39–24 advantage into halftime, the Pirates continued their strong play in the third quarter, outscoring Rhodes 22–13 before locking down defensively in the final period to seal the victory. Southwestern held the Lynx to just two points in the fourth quarter while cruising to its most lopsided conference win of the season.

With the victory, Southwestern improves to 13–9 overall and 4–7 in SAA play, currently sitting sixth in the conference standings as the Pirates push toward a spot in the conference tournament.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • Junior Adrianna McCoy led all scorers with a game-high 19 points off the bench, knocking down 9-of-15 shots in 25 minutes of action

  • Neela Castillo followed with 15 points, connecting on five field goals and going a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line

  • Trinity Benitez added 12 points and six rebounds, while Emma Flores filled the stat sheet with seven points, seven rebounds, six assists, and a block in 40 minutes

GAME NOTES

  • Lauren Stevens chipped in seven points and five rebounds, while Kylee Symons and Lizzy Kellam provided steady contributions on both ends of the floor

  • Southwestern finished the night shooting 36.4 percent from beyond the arc and 81.3 percent at the free-throw line

  • The Pirates also forced timely turnovers and capitalized with 11 points off miscues while adding 12 fast-break points and 31 points from the bench
