GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University women's basketball team battled through a difficult stretch but ultimately fell on the road to Berry College, 64–54, on Friday night in Southern Athletic Association play.
Southwestern opened the contest with strong energy, building an early advantage by outscoring Berry 15–10 in the first quarter while shooting 5-of-15 (33.3%) from the field, 2-of-6 from three-point range, and 3-of-4 at the free-throw line. The momentum shifted in the second period as the Pirates were held without a field goal, going 0-for-13 from the floor and 0-for-9 from beyond the arc, managing just one free throw to score a single point while Berry answered with 15 to take a 25–16 halftime lead.
Both teams matched each other in the third quarter with 19 points apiece, as Southwestern shot 5-of-12 (41.7%) from the field and converted 8-of-9 free throws to keep pace. The Pirates continued to fight in the fourth quarter, adding another 19 points behind 6-of-14 shooting and five made free throws, but Berry's 20-point final period secured the 64–54 result.
