GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Men's Lacrosse captured both the offensive and defensive player of the week awards to start the season. Sophomore Keaten Cox scored the game-winning goal on Friday to earn the offensive accolade, while sophomore Dante Avicolli showed pure dominance on Sunday in the net to garner the defensive award.

Avicolli had a historic weekend between the pipes. The sophomore secured 28 saves on a .560 save percentage with a monstrous 13 ground balls. Avicolli was magnificent in the win against Illinois Wesleyan University with a career-high 22 saves. The day marked the most single-game saves by a Pirate goalie since 2015.

Cox finished the weekend with five goals and three assists after scoring a hat trick on Sunday. The highlight of the weekend came against University of Dubuque where the Pirates were deadlocked at 12-12 with 15 seconds remaining. Cox caught the ball with five seconds, wrapped around the goal and scored the game-winner with two seconds remaining.

Both sophomores played massive roles in the 2-0 weekend. Sunday's win handed Illinois Wesleyan their first home victory in 28 games. The Pirates look to keep the momentum high, traveling to North Carolina to take on Methodist University (Feb. 27) and Pfeiffer University (Mar. 1).
