MLAX Dominates All Facets In Third Straight Win Over Methodist, 14-6

FAYETTEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA - Southwestern Men's Lacrosse set the tone in never looked back in the first leg of the North Carolina road trip against Methodist University, 14-6. The Pirates have gone back-to-back season with 3-0 starts with another strong test against Pfeiffer University on Sunday.

Five different Pirates found the back of the net in the first quarter. The 5-1 start made a statement as two new Pirates scorers found the net in the second quarter, carrying a 7-2 lead into halftime.

Senior Matthew Houtz returned from injury this weekend with three second half goals as the Pirates found a comfortable enough lead to pull sophomore goalie Dante Avicolli after only surrendering four goals on his night though three quarters. Six goals allowed doesn't even fully show how well the Pirate defense played as two were scored in the final minute. The Pirates caused 28 turnovers from Methodist.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sophomore Jeffrey Jordan earned a breakout performance as a Pirate with three goals.
  • Southwestern was overjoyed to have Houtz back tonight with three goals
  • Freshman Marshall Mohun was arguably the best player on the field tonight with two goals and three assists.
  • Junior Josh Swandal added two goals.
  • Junior Trey Pena went 11-15 on faceoffs with nine ground balls.
  • Sophomores Jake Trailer and Drew Fehrenbacher each caused two turnovers.
