GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University women's basketball team fell on the road Sunday afternoon, dropping an 80–65 Southern Athletic Association contest to Oglethorpe University. The Pirates move to 13–11 overall and 4–9 in SAA play.
Southwestern opened the game with a strong first quarter, outscoring Oglethorpe 17–12 to take an early advantage. The teams played even in the second period at 15–15, giving the Pirates a 32–27 lead heading into halftime. Oglethorpe shifted momentum in the third quarter, using a 25–18 run to edge in front, before pulling away in the final frame with a 28–15 fourth quarter to secure the 80–65 victory.
The Pirates shot 23-of-61 (37.7%) from the field and 19-of-26 (73.1%) from the free throw line but were unable to find rhythm from beyond the arc, finishing 0-of-17 from three-point range. Southwestern made its presence felt inside with 40 points in the paint and added 12 second-chance points and eight fast break points. The contest featured eight ties and six lead changes, while the Pirates capitalized for 16 points off turnovers and received a significant lift from their bench, which contributed 33 points.
