GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Women's Soccer wrapped up non-conference play at home on Sunday, falling to University of California, Santa Cruz, 3-0. The Pirates head into SAA play at 5-3-2 overall after a tough non-conference slate.
Both squads dealt with a constant rain throughout the game as errant passes were costly. Southwestern has never beaten the Banana Slugs who always bring a talented and technical squad. The Pirates kept the same starting eleven, but
Addyson Luna returned to action today after being sidelined with injury for a few weeks.
The Pirates played a solid first 40 minutes, neutralizing a powerful Santa Cruz attack. However, Santa Cruz pounced in the 43rd minute on an impressive display of passing. The back breaker was the goal one minute later as the Banana Slugs took a 2-0 lead into halftime after the Pirates played a clean first 40 minutes.
Matti Penders nearly brought the momentum back to start the half, hitting the crossbar from deep. In the 77th minute, Santa Cruz put a bow on the game with the third goal.
EJ Searfoss made eight impressive saves, but the Santa Cruz offense was efficient on their chances.
