GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Women's Soccer found plenty of chances on Tuesday night, but fell short against the eighth ranked Trinity University Tigers at home, 3-1. Southwestern moves to 5-4-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
Both squads met in Georgetown on Tuesday night in the lone game in the conference that is an in-state matchup for the Pirates. Southwestern went with a similar starting lineup, besides
Ainsley VanTreeck who earned the opportunity in the starting eleven. The Pirates haven't taken down the Tigers since 2021.
The Tigers scored first on a corner with a double-assisted header goal in the fifth minute. In the 17th minute, Trinity took a 2-0 lead on a goal from last seasons conference player of the year. Four minutes later, Southwestern swung a ball into the middle which ricocheted off the Tigers for an own goal. The Pirates kept their defensive shape for the remainder of the half and entered the break down 2-1.
EJ Searfoss was excellent with six saves in the first half, despite the two goals allowed.
Trinity scored the third goal in the 62nd minute of the second half, which proved to be enough cushion to secure the win. The Tigers offense was deep as they registered 28 shots on the night as Searfoss reeled in nine saves for a season-high.
