GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University women's basketball team fell to Rhodes College, 70–58, in Southern Athletic Association action on Sunday morning in Memphis.
Rhodes set the tone early, taking a 16–9 lead after the first quarter as Southwestern shot 4-of-15 from the field. The Pirates improved offensively in the second quarter, going 7-of-16 from the floor and a perfect 3-for-3 at the free-throw line to score 17 points, but Rhodes matched the momentum with 20 points to carry a 36–26 advantage into halftime.
Southwestern continued to battle out of the break, shooting 44.4 percent in the third quarter while holding Rhodes to 14 points and scoring 17 of their own to trim the deficit. In the final period, the Pirates added 15 points behind a pair of three-pointers, but Rhodes responded with 20 fourth-quarter points to seal the 70–58 decision.
