GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University women's basketball team battled throughout but came up short on Friday night, dropping a 71–62 decision to Centre College inside the Robertson Center. The loss moves the Pirates to 10–7 overall and 1–5 in Southern Athletic Association play
Centre opened the game with a 21–14 advantage after the first quarter and carried a 38–25 lead into halftime following a 17–11 second period. Southwestern responded with its strongest offensive stretch in the third quarter, outscoring the Colonels 17–11 to cut into the deficit. The Pirates continued to fight in the fourth, putting up 20 points, but Centre answered with 22 of its own to secure the 71–62 final.
Southwestern shot efficiently on the night, finishing 24-of-52 (46.2%) from the field, while going 2-of-9 (22.2%) from three-point range and 12-of-16 (75.0%) at the free throw line. The Pirates were especially effective inside, scoring 34 points in the paint, and added 16 points off turnovers.
