GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Men's Soccer dominated the opportunities against Kalamazoo College on Friday night, but found themselves down one goal to start the second half. The Pirates responded with a flying header from junior
Cooper Pero in the 54st minute to tie the match. Southwestern continued to knock on the door before sophomore
Danny Wasserman ripped a 35-yard free kick strike to clinch the match.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Kalamazoo hung tight defensively carrying a draw into halftime, despite the Pirates posting 15 shots opposed to the Hornets one.
- The Pirates struggled on putting their shots on target in the first half only squaring three of those shots on goal.
- The Hornets came out firing in the second half. Senior Scott Johnson saved an intial shot before a Hornet swopped in to finish the deflection.
- Southwestern continued to fire free kicks and throws in into the box. Pero equalized the match for his first goal of the season on an eight-yard header. Sophomore Ross Anderson collected the assist on the corner.
- Multiple more chances occured for the Pirates, but the Hornets made getting a shot off very difficult.
- Kalamazoo committed what looked like a harmless foul from 35 yards out in the 81st minute. Wasserman decided to go for goal, ripping one into the top corner and clinching the match.
GAME NOTES
- Wasserman eclipses his season goal high, notching his second of the season. Both goals from the midfielder have been dramatic shots well beyond the 18.
- Southwestern continues to cause havoc on set pieces as Pero and senior Raghav Sharma create problems in the air for opposing defenses.
- Pirates could creep into nationally ranked discussions with a strong result on Sunday.
