Pirates Historic Start Continues With Victory Over Schreiner, 3-0

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Men's Soccer dominated Schreiner University on Sunday afternoon, 3-0. The victory marks the fourth straight win to start the season, which is the first time in program recorded history (dating by to 1993) the Pirates won four consecutive games with no draws to start the season. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Pirates used their air advantage on set pieces right out the gate. Senior Greyson Pinto launched his signature long throw in to fellow senior Raghav Sharma in the box. Sharma flicked it with power into the net for his first goal of 2025 in the seventh minute. 
  • Southwestern continued to fire 15 shots in the first half as Pinto hit the crossbar before the break from distance. 
  • The second goal came in the 53rd minute on a long ball sent from junior Cooper Pero. Junior Nico Colegrove received the ball and left a beautiful flick into space for Pinto to take a few dribbles and fire into the net. 
  • Sophomore Daniel Sartorio fired home his first goal of the season in the final minute of play right outside the 18. Pinto assisted on the goal contributing to all three Pirate goals with one goal and two assists. Pinto has accumulated four assists in four matches. 
GAME NOTES
  • Past teams have found success to kick off the year, such as the 2024 squad who went 7-0-3 to start the year. However, no other team had avoided both ties and losses in the first four games. 
  • The Southwestern defense has excelled, surrendering only two goals in four games. The defense also gets involved as sophomore Amar Singh, Pero, and Sharma all have contributed to goals or long ball assists. 
  • The Pirates continue their dominance over the Mountaineers going 9-0-1 in the past ten meetings. 
UP NEXT
Southwestern stays at home next Friday to battle Concordia University at 8 p.m. The Pirates also take on Texas Lutheran on Sunday at 1 p.m.
