GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Men's Soccer Senior
Raghav Sharma captured a well deserved SAA Defensive Player of the Week honor after helping the Pirates stay undefeated last weekend. Sharma collects his first SAA weekly honor, but third career conference Defensive Player of the Week from the SCAC days.
The senior played a massive role in the 2-0 victory against East Texas Baptist on Thursday night. Sharma scored the deciding goal by slotting a cross into the net from junior
Lucas Marino. The goal marked his team-leading fourth of the season and third in two matches. Sharma and the back line stayed tough, playing the final 30 minutes a man down and still delivering the shutout.
Despite one of the top Pirate defenders out, Sharma and his teammates stifled University of California, Santa Cruz to a 0-0 draw on Sunday. The defense has been a monumental part of the early success, surrendering four goals all season with six shutouts.
Southwestern hits the road to take on Berry College on Friday and Oglethorpe University on Sunday for the first taste of SAA play. Stay tuned to our website or app for updates.
