WSOC Falls In Final Minute 4-3, Powell Secures Hat Trick

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern Univeristy Women's Soccer squad mounted a comeback tying the match at 3-3 against a strong Hardin-Simmons University squad. However, Hardin-Simmons pulled off the last minute goal to earn the victory, 4-3.

Junior Jackie Powell had a monstrous day for the Pirates with three goals. Powell becomes the 12th Pirate in program history to record a hat trick and first since 2022.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Hardin-Simmons wing attackers gave the Pirates trouble to start the match down a goal.
  • Powell responded off the bench with the goal off the corner kick by senior Cecilia Banderob.
  • The Cowgirls scored the next two goals, leading 3-1 in the second half with 34 minutes to play.
  • Hardin-Simmons second goal came on an unlucky deflection into the net sending freshman goalie EJ Searfoss the wrong direction.
  • Searfoss booted the ball off the dropkick the length of the field to Powell who beat a defender and sent her second goal past the keeper.
  • The Pirates completed the comeback on another booming dropkick from Searfoss. The kick was collected by sophomore Lindsey Gomez, flicked it to Powell, and riffled into the net.
  • Momentum seemed to be in the Pirates direction before a pinball goal by the Cowgirls in the 89th minute proved to be the difference.
