FB Totals Most Points Since 2018 in 51-43 Victory over Puget Sound

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Football used a dominant first half to move to 2-0 on the season with the home opener victory against University of Puget Sound, 51-43. The Pirates 51 points were the most since the 2018 season as 35 of them came in the first half. 

The Pirates led at halftime 35-6 as the Loggers mounted a comeback in the final quarter scoring 30 points in the fourth. However, the 14 points in the second half along with the domination on both sides in the first half proved to be enough. 

1Q HIGHLIGHTS
  • Both squads traded quick drives before the Pirates new transfer tailback sophomore Tycen Williams ripped off a 55-yard touchdown run. 
  • Puget Sound responded with a 35-yard touchdown pass. 
  • Sophomore Houston Forester blocked the extra point as the quarter ended at 7-6. 
2Q HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sophomore Jaxon Sims had another sharp performance under center, punching in his first career rushing touchdown. 
  • Sophomore Gilbert Anderson III jumped on an unforced to Logger fumble for a big turnover. 
  • Sims connected with junior Graydon Thompson for 56 yards near the endzone. Williams scored his second touchdown of the game making it 21-6. 
  • The Pirates found the endzone again as freshman wide receiver Harris Gilliam caught his first career touchdown on a perfectly executed slant from Sims with two minutes left in the half. 
  • Sophomore Darrell Baiye picked up a pivotal sack for a turnover on downs. Sims found junior tight end Jacob Washburn in the endzone with 23 seconds left. The Pirates led 35-6. 
3Q HIGHLIGHTS
  • Senior DJ James picked off the Loggers for a his second of the season, returning it for 58 yards.
  • The Pirates added a safety as the senior duo of Maurion Williams-Jack and Chuks Ikwuemesi took the quarterback down. 
  • Junior quarterback Jacob Smith entered the game, throwing a 26-yard touchdown pass to Thompson. The lead was extended to 44-13. 
4Q HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Pirates struggled in the fourth quarter getting to the quarterback as the Loggers scored 30 points in the fourth on a dangerous pass attack. 
  • Williams helped the Pirates gain a cushion with a 31-yard rushing touchown to make it 51-34. 
  • Puget Sound pulled within one score after another late touchdown throw but could not hold off the Pirates offense. 
GAME NOTES
  • Williams put on a clinic with 17 rushes for 155 yards and three touchdowns, while Thompson led the receiving again with 117 yards. 
  • Sims was efficient once again with 170 yards passing, 31 yards rushing, three total touchdowns, and zero interceptions. 
  • The Loggers clearly wanted to attack the air with a monstrous 575 passing yards. The Loggers finished with 86 attempts from their starter as three different receivers broke 100+ yards.
