MSOC Dominates the Second Half, beating St. Thomas on Opening Night

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Soccer pounced in the second half, earning the victory over University of St. Thomas on Friday night, 2-0. Sophomore Danny Wasserman and freshman Grey Richards were the goal scorers. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Neither team created an ample amount of opportunities in the first half as 13 fouls occurred in the scoreless half. 
  • The game flipped just 15 seconds into the second half. Sophomore Alessandro Sosa intercepted a Celts pass and centered the pass to Wasserman. The sophomore midfielder, took two dribbles to shot a rocket from 30 yards to give the Pirates the advantage. 
  • Southwestern continued to manufacture chances as sophomore Quinn MacLeod deliverd a fantastic run, resulting in drawing a PK. Senior Raghav Sharma stepped up for the penalty kick and hit the crossbar and out. 
  • The Pirates made a mass sub as the bench continued to press the Celts. Sophomore Amar Singh drove a long ball to Richards who blasted a volley into the net from 20 yards out in the 71st minute. 
GAME NOTES
  • Wasserman's goal to start the second half was his second career finish. 
  • Senior Scott Johnson, Sharma, and Singh all logged 90 minutes, completely neutralizing the Celts forwards. 
  • Richards brings a dynamic option off the bench for Pirates, displaying impressive poise in his first game.
