Men's Lacrosse Splits Weekend In Michigan

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Men's Lacrosse traveled to Grand Rapids, Michigan to play against the Calvin University Knights last Friday. It was a competitive match up with both teams who found the back of the net early. Going into halftime Southwestern led the game 9-7. The Pirates defense dominated the second half only allowing two Calvin goals. Southwestern would go on to win the game 14-9, adding another win to the season.  On Saturday March 22nd, the Pirates took on Hope College for a neutral site game in Michigan. The Pirates were outscored in the first and third period which helped Hope secure the win. The Pirates picked up their second loss of the season, falling short against Hope College 11-19.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS 

  • Cade McDonanald scored a team high of six goals and added two assists to his stat sheet 
  • Freshman goalkeeper Dante Avocolli made twenty saves, saving 69% of shots on goal in the contest. 
  • Midfielder Gabe Morgan picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers. 

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Pirates were led by Matthew Houtz who scored four goals out of his nine shots while also picking up two ground balls
  • Anthony Caudillo went 14-28 for faceoffs also collecting a game high of six ground balls
  • Senior Declan O'Donnell led the Pirates in assists with three total helping him pick up four points for the contest

GAME NOTES 

  • The Southwestern offense scored on three out of five extra man possessions in game one against Calvin
  • The Pirates did not get off as many shots nor shots on goal against Hope during the contest. Total shots (34-43) and shots on goal (18-34) both in favor of Hope

UP NEXT 

  • The Pirates are back at home on Varsity Field as they face Kalamazoo College on March 26th, where the Southwestern campus will celebrate Grub and Gameday
