GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University Men's Lacrosse team opened up the 2025 season on the friendly confines of Varsity Field on Saturday, going up against conference opponent Hendrix College in the first game of the year. The Pirates wasted zero time establishing themselves as the better team, scoring eight goals in the first quarter and only allowing two from the Warriors. It would be more of the same throughout the entire of the game, with Southwestern piling on another fifteen goals in the 23-7 victory.Â
HIGHLIGHTS
- Senior attackman Cade McDonald put on a career-high performance with ten points on six goals and four assists. McDonald shot 37.5% with only one turnover on the day.
- Junior attackman Jackson Strauser also matched his career-high with seven goals against the Warriors on just nine shots (78%).Â
- At the face off dot, Trey Pena went 14/22 for Southwestern, picking up eight ground balls in the process.Â
- Junior midfielder Matthew Houtz collected four points, two goals and two assists, and was third on the team in overall points.
NOTES
- The Pirates were penalized six times against Hendrix for a total of four minutes and thirty seconds. Southwestern held the Warriors to just 1/6 on their man-up opportunities.Â
- Southwestern held Hendrix to just a 54% clearing percentage while the Pirates cleared at 93% (13/14).
- Including their twenty-two face off wins, the Pirates scooped up fifty ground balls while the Warriors managed twenty-one.Â
