GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern Baseball team hosted their official home team opener as well as Senior Day on Sunday February 23rd against the University of St. Thomas Celts. What was supposed to be a three game series shifted to a double-header Sunday, and a single game being played in mid-April due to the weather. Pirates split the double-header with the Celts, losing the first game 1-12 but winning the second game in true Pirate fashion with a walk-off where the final score was 8-7! 

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS 

• Tres Organ scored in the bottom of the fourth inning off of an error by the second baseman

• Pirates James Vaquero and Christian Melillo led the Pirates with two hits each during their four plate appearances

• The Pirates had eight hits and four errors in game one

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS 

• J. Vaquero led the Pirates with three hits, two of those were doubles and he collected an RBI for the stat line

• Chase McGarr picked up his second win of the season, pitching three innings, facing fifteen batters and allowing two hits with no runs scored

• Liam Stonestreet singles to right field in the bottom of the ninth inning and with the speed of Tanner Teffs on first base, Stonestreet delivered the first walk-off hit of the season!

NOTES

• C. Melillo collected two stolen bases for his stat line in game two

• Jordan Coronado led the Pirates in RBIs (2) in game two

• Southwestern Baseball will be back at home for a single game match up at Rockwell Field when they take on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, February 26th.
