Pirates Take Down #30 Grinnell College Going 1-1 On The Weekend

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University Men's tennis team hit the road for their first out-of-conference matches against #30 Grinnell College in Tennessee on Saturday February 15th and #15 Sewanee on Sunday February 16th. The Pirates came out on top beating the Pioneers 5-2 but respectively dropped to the Tigers 2-5

 

MATCH 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Oscar Roy and Ashton Ellis came through with a huge singles/doubles sweep for the Pirates. Roy won his singles match 6-1, 6-2, while Ellis was forced into a third-set tiebreaker, winning his singles match 7-6, 4-6, 1-0

  • Nolan Alvarez came back after his doubles match loss and won his singles match 6-4, 6-3

  • Freshman Porter Arens had an impressive 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 comeback win in No. 6 singles 

MATCH 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Junior Bernardo Clemente picked up a win at No. 4 singles going into four sets 6-2, 6-7, 0-7, 6-2

  • Portere Arens had another comeback win 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 to help him go 2-0 on the week in No. 6 singles

UP NEXT

  • Southwestern will be in Kerrville, TX for a conference match against Schreiner University on Friday February 8th.
