GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern softball wrapped up a four game stand in East Texas on Saturday, finishing their weekend with a double-header against the LeTourneau University Yellow Jackets in Longview, Texas. The Pirates fell by 10-3 and 8-0 margins in games one and two against the Yellow Jackets, respectively. Southwestern held LeTourneau to three runs in the first, second and sixth innings but a seven run third would be what spelled their defeat. In the second game, Southwestern was shut-out with the Yellow Jackets scoring in each inning except the second and fifth.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore pitcher Jaden Wheeler drove in two runs on a double to left field and scored off a double from Emily Nevarez for a three run fourth inning in the first contest.
- Kaydence Garza led the Pirates in hitting for the first game, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate.
- Erica Otto went for two hits including a double in the Pirates second game of the day, leading the team.
NOTES
- LeTourneau hitters combined for twenty-four hits in fifty-nine at bats in the two games against the Pirates.
- The Pirates totaled six errors (three each game) while LeTourneau limited mistakes to just two in the double-header.
- Yellow Jacket pitchers struck out the Pirates eight time, four a contest, while Madi Vela dealt the Pirates only two strike outs in the second game of the day.
