GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University Men's tennis team continued conference action last weekend, going up against Austin College and Texas Lutheran on Saturday, February 8th. The Pirates took the first win of the day, 4-0, against the 'Roos who came into the contest with limited numbers. Against the Bulldogs, Southwestern again swept their opponent 7-0 to advance to 3-0 on the season.
With only two doubles matches against Austin College, the Pirates took the point thanks to wins from the team of
Rylan Hastings and
Christopher Langford in the one spot as well as
Nathan Qi and
Nolan Alvarez in the two spot. Each Pirate player took wins in their singles match up including
Jared Burton in the one spot (6-2, 6-1),
Landon Sosebee in the two (6-0, 6-1) and
Sebastian Herrera in the third (6-1, 6-0).
Southwestern faced a full lineup of competition in the 1:00 PM match of the day against Texas Lutheran. In the number one double slot
Ashton Ellis and Joesph Snyman grinded out a 6-4 win against the Bulldogs. Alvarez and Sosebee finished out their opponents by a score of 6-2 while Burton and
Porter Arens also secured the doubles point for the Pirates by a 6-2 margin. The Pirates faced no trouble in singles play. At the number one singles,
Oscar Roy nearly completed the sweep, going 6-1, 6-0 against his competitor while Qi would complete the sweep in the two singles spot, 6-0, 6-0. Going down the list at numbers three, four, five and six; Alvarez, Hastings, Langford and Burton took victory in their matches to push the Pirates to 7-0 victory over the Bulldogs.

- Southwestern will hit the road for their first out-of-conference matches this season, traveling to Tennessee to take on Grinnell College in Nashville on Saturday and the #15 ranked Sewanee Tigers on Sunday. Those times are set for 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM, respectively.
