Pirates Power Past Austin College for 62–50 Road Victory

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Women's Basketball picked up a strong road win on Saturday afternoon, taking down former SCAC rival Austin College 62–50 behind a dominant defensive effort and a balanced scoring attack. With the victory, the Pirates improve to 6–2 on the season, while the 'Roos drop to 4–3.

Southwestern set the tone early, grabbing a 13–5 lead after the first quarter behind efficient shooting and stifling defense. Austin College responded in the second, outscoring the Pirates 16–11, but Southwestern carried a narrow 24–21 advantage into halftime. A crucial 16-point third quarter sparked the Pirates' momentum, pushing the lead to as many as 15, and a 22-point fourth quarter sealed the road win.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • Neela Castillo delivered a steady all-around performance, scoring 13 points while pulling down 7 rebounds and going 7–8 from the free-throw line.

  • Kylee Symons matched her with 13 points, shooting 4–7 from the field and a perfect 5–5 at the charity stripe, also adding 6 rebounds and 2 steals.

  • Adrianna McCoy added 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists, providing clutch scoring in key stretches.

  • Lauren Stevens gave the Pirates a huge lift off the bench, finishing with 8 points and 4 rebounds.

GAME NOTES

  • Cylee Lopez added efficient production as well, putting up 6 points on 2–2 shooting from deep.
