GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University women's basketball powered to its third straight win on Tuesday night, rolling past Howard Payne University 80–55 behind a balanced offensive effort and stifling defensive pressure. With the road victory, the Pirates improved to 4–1 on the season.
Southwestern came out firing and never trailed, taking control with a dominant first quarter in which the Pirates shot 56.3 percent from the field. SU opened with a 23–9 advantage and carried that momentum into halftime after a 26-point second quarter, building a 49–28 lead at the break. Howard Payne put together its strongest stretch in the third quarter, outscoring the Pirates 15–12, but Southwestern responded with a steady 19-point fourth quarter to close out the 80–55 victory and maintain full control.
