Pirates Battle Hard but Fall to UMHB on the Road, 78–59

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern women's basketball battled through a physical matchup on Saturday afternoon but ultimately fell to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, 78–59. The Pirates showed stretches of strong execution—especially in the second and third quarters—but were unable to overcome UMHB's pressure and scoring runs.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • Neela Castillo led Southwestern with an all-around standout performance, posting a team-high 18 points on 7–for-12 shooting while adding six rebounds and an impressive six steals

  • Adrianna McCoy followed closely with 15 points, knocking down seven field goals and contributing three rebounds and three assists

  • Trinity Benitez provided an efficient 8 points in 16 minutes, going 4–for-6 at the free-throw line, while Emma Flores added 6 points, 5 assists, and 3 rebounds

GAME NOTES

  • Kylee Symons chipped in 3 points and grabbed 4 boards, and Alina Hernandez contributed 4 points and a steal off the bench

  • Additional scoring came from Lizzy Kellam (3), Adley Halligan (2), and solid defensive minutes from the remaining reserves

  • The Pirates generated 22 points in the paint, 12 fast-break points, and 9 points off turnovers, while the defense forced a tie and lead change early in the game

  • Southwestern finished the afternoon shooting 37.9% from the field (22–58), 23.1% from three (6–26), and 75.0% at the line (9–12)
