JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI - Southwestern University Football struggled in the third quarter, but rallied back in the fourth coming up three points short against Millsaps College on Saturday afternoon, 27-24.

Graydon Thompson was dominant today making history with three touchdowns. The junior surpassed the new age program single-season touchdown record with his tenth of the season. The previous record of eight set by Austin Castilleja in 2021.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Millsaps College entered play at 5-3 overall and 2-2 in conference with a notable win against Maryville University.
- The Pirates got off to a nightmare start as the Major scored on two passing plays to opening the game.
- However, Southwestern answered as senior DJ James forced a fumble on the punt and recovered it.
- Junior Jacob Smith tied the game with a pass to Thompson for the touchdown, 7-7.
- Sophomore Jaxon Sims took the squad down the field as quarterback before the half completing multiple short intermediate throws.
- The drive was capped off by another Thompson receiving touchdown from Sims. The touchdown sealed the record and gave the Pirates a 14-7 lead.
- Junior Jameer Martin and sophomore Braeden Cundiff each made two massive tackles to force a long 39-yard field goal. The kick was missed as we entered the second 14-7.
- However, Millsaps forced an quick punt and marched down to tie the game with a strong air attack.
- Junior Tycen Williams and Smith carried the run game into field goal range as freshman Chase Lanham converted the 32-yard field goal to take the lead before halftime.
- Southwestern struggled to move the sticks in the third quarter, while Millsaps scored 14 third quarter points to take the 27-17 lead.
- The Pirates cut the lead to three points starting the fourth quarter with another Sims to Thompson touchdown grab.
- SU built another scoring opportunity before Sims tossed an interception with eight minutes left to play.
- James returned the favor with his own interception, denying the Major scoring opportunity.
- Southwestern received one last shot with 48 seconds to play on their own 20.
- The drive was brought all the way down to the Majors 43. The final play was intercepted as the Pirates lost 27-24.
