Enakpene Dominates In Road Victory Over Hendrix, 79-74

CONWAY, ARKANSAS - Southwestern University Men's Basketball concluded the Arkansas road trip with two victories after beating Hendrix College on Sunday afternoon, 79-74. Southwestern had five different Pirates total double-digit points as the squad is averaging 75 points per game this season at 2-1 overall. 

Senior Shobby Enakpene has led the Pirates in all three games this season, totaling a monsterous 26-point career night on Sunday. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Southwestern leads the series 16-6 over Hendrix entering the road contest. 
  • Enakpene picked up the six early points on two different levels to set the tone. 
  • Hendrix led 15-14 after the Pirates went seven minutes without a field goal. 
  • Junior Zach Gomez hit a massive three to tie the game at 17 and end the cold stretch. 
  • Gomez and sophomore Aedan Lewis hit triples to make it 23-22 Southwestern. 
  • The end of the half started to get physical as Hendrix was called for a technical after a hard collision in the air as Lewis drove to the basket in transition. 
  • Enakpene gave the Pirates momentum heading into the break with a turnaround jumper at the buzzer for 11 points. Southwestern led 38-35 after scoring 26 points in the final ten minutes of the half. 
  • Southwestern mounted a 10-4 run to start the second half. 
  • Junior Zach Shugars ended a run from Hendrix knocking down a three as the Pirates led 52-43. 
  • The Pirates struggled halfway through the second going on another long scoreless stretch, but Lewis snapped the drought making it 56-52. 
  • With under six minutes left, Enakpene took over dishing to freshman Eli Pittman for the flush and getting to the basket himself, leading 68-62. 
  • The Pirates answered every Warrior bucket as Enakpene totaled his 25th point at the line for a career-high. 
  • Southwestern led 77-72 after a technical foul on the Pirates. 
  • Gomez iced the game knocking down key free throws as the Pirates left Arkansas with two victories.
NOTES 
  • The 26-point outburst to close out the first half proved to be massive for the Pirates in a back and fourth offensive performance. 
  • Freshman Neo Franco and Lewis were massive, adding 22 points combined off the bench. Franco had ten points in only 11 minutes. 
  • Enakpene is averaging 21 points per game. More importantly, Enakpene is becoming the emerging option as the end of game scorer. His previous highest season average was eight points per game. 
  • Freshman Eli Pittman played a pivotal role as a starter. Pittman racked up 12 boards for the Pirates on his best game in the front court.
