Southwestern Women’s Basketball Starts Season 2-0 With Win Over Ozarks

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University Women's Basketball team opened their road slate with a dominant 62-50 victory over former SCAC foe University of the Ozarks on Friday, November 14. With the win, the Pirates improve to 2-0 on the season, marking the first time since the 2012-13 season that Southwestern has started a campaign with back-to-back wins.

Southwestern controlled the game from the start, jumping out to an 11-8 lead after the first quarter. The Eagles responded with a strong second quarter, outscoring the Pirates 18-12, but Southwestern surged in the second half, outscoring Ozarks 39-24 over the final two quarters to secure the 12-point victory.

  • The Pirates shot 40.7 percent from the floor on the night, including 18.8 percent from three-point range, and knocked down 64.7 percent of their free throws

  • Southwestern dominated in the paint with 34 points and took advantage of turnovers, scoring 31 points off Ozarks' miscues. Fast break opportunities fueled 18 points, while bench contributions added nine points to the effort.

  • Southwestern also recorded four second-chance points, held a 34-24 advantage in points in the paint, and tied the game twice while exchanging leads just two times.
