WSOC Drops Regular Season Finale, Cementing 6th Seed In SAA Tournament

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - Southwestern University Women's Soccer fell short in the regular season finale at Trinity. However, Southwestern still clinched a spot in the SAA Tournament after Berry College tied.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

  • Southwestern clinched a spot in the SAA Tournament before the match started as Oglethorpe University and Berry College played to a 0-0 draw.
  • The draw eliminated the Vikings, as the Pirates 2-0 last weekend proved to be the difference.
  • Southwestern could improve their tournament seeding with a result win over Trinity. Otherwise, the Pirates would be locked into the six seed with a matchup against Sewanee looming next week.
  • The Tigers dominated early with ten shots in the first 15 minutes on four saves from freshman EJ Searfoss.
  • Trinity finished with 9 shots on goal in the first half, but the Pirates refused to break.
  • Junior Jackie Powell had the best opportunity in the 35th minute. The junior took the last Tiger defender and shot the attempt wide.
  • The shot was heavily contested as the Tiger defender was pulling Powell down.
  • Trinity found another golden opportunity before the half ended, shooting a cross over the bar sending the match scoreless at half.
  • The wind began to roar in the second half, favoring in the Pirates direction.
  • However, Trinity continued to possess the ball majority of the half.
  • The defensive unit of Sari Hernandez, Sadie Schuster, Lauren Powell, Addyson Luna, and Matti Penders continued to frustrate the Tigers.
  • However, Trinity found their goal to take the lead with 22 minutes left to play as Searfoss has no chance to stop it.
  • In the 84th minute, Trinity made it 2-0 crashing the box and scoring off the corner.
