MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE - Southwestern University Women's Soccer held tough in the first half, but ultimately lost to the three-seeded Sewanee Tigers in the opening round of SAA Conference Tournament.
The Pirates close the book on the 2025 season after finishing 7-8-4 overall in a difficult new conference. The squad carries an ample amount of young talent into 2026, but also will miss the dedication and leadership of the 11 seniors.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
- Southwestern headed to their first SAA Conference Tournament which is hosted by Rhodes College this year.
- The Pirates entered as the six seed, taking on the three-seeded Tigers.
- The squad held their shape well in the first half only allowing six shots and no goals.
- In fact, sophomore Kristine Garcia nearly gave the Pirates an early advantage, hitting the woodwork in the 16th minute.
- The Tigers also hit the post in the 33rd minute.
- Freshman EJ Searfoss, who was named All-SAA Second Team earlier in the week recorded four pivotal saves in the first half.
- In the 55th minute, Southwestern was unable to put a body in front of the Tiger forward as they took an early one goal lead.
- The Tigers struck again in the 68th minute off a short ball on a set piece.
- Sewanee barely stayed onside and left Searfoss with no chance, sealing the match at 2-0.
