WSOC Falls Behind Early, Dropping Non-Conference Match Against UMHB

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Women's Soccer dropped a non-conference match in their return to Varsity Field on Wednesday night against University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, 4-1. The Pirates fall to 4-4-3 overall before another big SAA match on Saturday. 

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
  • Southwestern and UMHB met for 16th time in program history on Wednesday. The home match was the first since September 19th back on campus. 
  • The Pirates started slow as the Lady Crusaders found the back of the net in the 4th minute. 
  • UMHB struck again in the 26th minute as the same Lady Crusader forward scored on a crafty combination. 
  • Senior Devin Cybulski got behind the defense on a through ball from junior Jackie Powell, shooting her shot a fraction late as the Lady Crusaders took a 2-0 lead into halftime. 
  • The Pirates crafted opportunities in the second half with nine shots, but UMHB struck again in the 48th minute on a header goal. 
  • Southwestern got on the board as senior Cecilia Banderob scored from well beyond the box from the right wing. The goal marked the first of her career. 
  • The momentum started to turn before the Lady Crusaders extended the lead to three on a goal in the 71st minute that clinched the match.

Southwestern stays at home for the first SAA matchup at Varsity Field. The Pirates take on Sewanee at 11:00 a.m.
