Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

MSOC Ties All-Time Wins Record In Victory Over Rhodes, 3-1

SOUTHWESTERN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Men's Soccer surrendered an uncharacteristic early goal, but settled in giving Rhodes College no room to move the rest of the match, winning 3-1. The Pirates celebrated senior day for Raghav Sharma, Greyson Pinto, and Scott Johnson

The seniors delivered a strong final regular season home game, tying the all-time program record with the 14th victory of the season. The victory improves their record to 14-0-3 overall and 6-0 in conference. Southwestern travels to Trinity University next with the opportunity to win the regular season title with a win or draw.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
  • Rhodes came into the match desperate with zero conference wins. However, the Lynx do possess height that could've possibly match up with the Pirates.
  • Southwestern punched the Lynx immediately in the first minute as Pinto fired a shot off the crossbar. The deflection found sophomore Quinn MacLeod's foot who placed it perfectly passed the keeper.
  • MacLeod's breakout season continues with his fifth goal of the season. His efforts have been awarded playing in 875 more minutes than his freshman campaign.
  • Rhodes shocked the Pirates with an equalizing goal 45 seconds later.
  • Pinto received a yellow card in the 18th minute on an aggressive collision in the box with the keeper.
  • Senior Raghav Sharma hit the crossbar, missing a rare opportunity in the box.
  • However, junior Cooper Pero picked Sharma up with the equalizing goal. Junior Lucas Marino swung in the cross to Pero for his third goal of the week.
  • Sophomore Danny Wasserman nearly missed two chances on set pieces outside of the box. Southwestern dominated the chances in the second half with a third goal in the 89th minute.
  • Wasserman flicked the header to sophomore Daniel Sartorio who played freshman Grey Richards into space. Richards used his speed to put the nail in the coffin past the Lynx keeper.
UP NEXT
Southwestern takes on Trinity next Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The Pirates were picked to finish fourth in the preseason poll and now hold an opportunity to win the regular season title on Saturday with a win or tie.
