MSOC Draws with UMHB in Riveting Non-Conference Battle, 2-2

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Men's Soccer showed an immense amount of grit on Wednesday night scoring two goals in the second half to take the lead against University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, before the Crusaders tied the match with three minutes to play, 2-2. 

The heavyweight battle lived up to the hype with two dramatic goals in the final nine minutes as both squads are in prime shape to make the NCAA Tournament. The Pirates move to 11-0-3 overall, finishing a third straight non-conference unbeaten season. 

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
  • Another edition to the rivalry lived up to the battle. In fact, the last Pirates non-conference loss was to the Crusaders in 2022. 
  • The Crusaders came into the match 10-1-3, while the Pirates were riding the high of the 5-0 victory over Sewanee, still undefeated. 
  • Chances arose early in the match as senior Greyson Pinto fired a shot into a defender on the goal line who made a team save in the sixth minute. 
  • The Pirates had majority of the shots in the first half at 11-4. However, UMHB was matching the Pirates pace. 
  • In the 29th minute, UMHB scored on a rocket from about 25 yards out. 
  • Senior Raghav Sharma manufactured two late shots on goal, but went into halftime down one. 
  • The Pirates received the needed motivation at the break coming out with more energy in the second. 
  • The second unit excelled as freshman Anthony Peacher fired a shot off the crossbar that pinballed to freshman Grey Richards who equalized with his fourth goal of the season. 
  • Sophomore Quinn MacLeod stopped a crucial Crusaders counter attack, but received a yellow card in the 78th minute. 
  • In the 81st minute, junior Nico Colegrove beat his defender on the flank and found Pinto's head in the box. Pinto snapped the header across his body into the net for what looked to be a third straight game-winning goal. 
  • Pinto continued his tear on defenses with four goals in his past three matches. The senior leads the squad with six goals and six assists. 
  • The Crusaders refesed to quit, scoring an equalizer with three minutes to play on a cross that the Pirates failed to clear.
