WSOC Surrenders Late Goal In Non-Conference Loss to TLU, 1-0

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Women's Soccer fell on Tuesday in another tightly contested battle to a strong Texas Lutheran University squad, 1-0. The Pirates played the eight-win Bulldogs tough all match before they surrendered a shot from distance with nine minutes left. 

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
  • Southwestern and Texas Lutheran go way back as the series favored the Pirates 19-12-4 all-time. 
  • However, TLU entered the match 7-3 this season. 
  • Freshman EJ Searfoss and the Pirate defense were busy with four shots saved. 
  • Senior Devin Cybulski and sophomore Kristine Garcia each had close opportunities with shots on goal to close the half at 0-0. 
  • The Tigers mounted their best chance as Searfoss attacked an air ball, which trickled inside the box. TLU sent a shot into an empty net before senior Sadie Schuster made a heroic team save. 
  • Texas Lutheran continued to threat, putting a shot off the crossbar. However, the defense looked strong and Searfoss recorded 12 saves. 
  • In the 80th minute, TLU scored on a strike well outside the 18 past Searfoss. 
  • Junior Ainsley VanTreeck had the last chance for the Pirates before time ran out.
