MSOC Dismantles Sewanee Staying On Top The SAA Standings, 5-0

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Men's Soccer sends another statement to the rest of the SAA on Saturday with a dominant team victory against Sewanee on Saturday afternoon to stay undefeated, 5-0. Southwestern's historic year continues as the longest unbeaten streak at 11-0-2 only three wins away from tying the programs wins record.

The match puts the Pirates in prime position with four games left in the SAA before they host this year's conference tournament at Varsity Field.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
  • Saturday marked a key conference match as Sewanee came in 9-1-3 and 1-0-1 in the conference, while the Pirates were on top of the standings at 2-0.
  • Moreover, the Pirates expecteda hard-fought game against a strong defensive team.
  • Despite the undefeated season, the lone gripe Southwestern could have is they have only scored four goals in the past four matches. Saturday changed that with a dominant offensive day.
  • Southwestern came out on fire with five early shots. Senior Greyson Pinto started the scoring in the 13th minute. Junior Cooper Pero played a long ball into a perfect flick from junior Nico Colegrove as Pinto beat his final defender and slotted a shot from the 18 in the net.
  • The Pirate center backs were dominant in the box again as junior Lucas Marino sent a corner into Pero who flicked a header to senior Raghav Sharma who cleaned up the goal from the six. Sharma and Pinto are now tied in goals at five this season leading the team.
  • The trio of Pero, Colegrove, and Pinto struck again in the 54th minute. Pinto climbed the ladder with a leaping header goal from a perfectly placed back post cross from Colegrove.
  • Southwestern's bench got involved seven minutes later as freshman Grey Richards followed a ball into the box from junior Landon Guenther. The ball slipped out of the keeper's hands as Richards put away the fourth goal and his third of the season.
  • Guenther scored the fifth goal from a driving attack from winger sophomore Quinn MacLeod. Guenther secures his first of the season.
