Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Pirates Sweep Sewanee on Senior Day, Improve to 6-1 in Conference Play

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS -  The Southwestern Pirates Volleyball team closed out Senior Day in dominant fashion, defeating conference foe Sewanee in a three-set sweep on Saturday afternoon inside the Robertson Center. With the victory, the Pirates improved to 6-1 in Southern Athletic Association play and 14-4 overall.

Head coach Don Flora praised his team's performance and the significance of the day, noting, "Getting a sweep and playing consistent, clean volleyball is always important, but when you're celebrating three seniors and their four-year careers, it makes the day even brighter." He also highlighted the team's offensive rhythm and key individual efforts, adding, "Our pin hitters did a great job terminating the ball, and once we made better out-of-system decisions, things really clicked. Chloe Blanchard was impressive and efficient offensively, and our seniors—Lily McWhorter, Emily Marks, and Annika Flora—have truly helped raise the bar and define the 'Pirate Way.'"

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • It was a well-balanced performance across the board for Southwestern, highlighted by freshman Chloe Blanchard's breakout showing. Blanchard led the Pirates with 14 kills and an impressive .481 hitting percentage, pacing an efficient offensive attack.

  • At the net, Lily McWhorter and Kendall Jurgens anchored the defense, each tallying two solo blocks, while McWhorter added two block assists to help shut down the Tigers' attack.

  • Libero Izzy Rodriguez once again stood tall in the back row, collecting 14 digs, six assists, and a service ace to keep the Pirates steady in serve-receive and transition play.

GAME NOTES
