GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University Women's Swim team competed in their last home event of the 2024-2025 season on Saturday. In their second to last event before the conference championships, the Pirates defeated the University of Texas - Permian Basin Falcon 159 - 100 in the dual meet. This marks the second time for the season the women have beat UTPB after having scored higher than them in the Trinity Invitational.
HIGHLIGHTS (First Place Finishes)
- 200 Medley Relay - Two Southwestern teams competed in the event against each other. The team of Ellie Samples, Jackie Vargas, Niva Maskey and Elizabeth Krajca took first against their teammates with a time of 1:58.55 to kick off the meet.
- 1000 Freestyle - Out of three competitors, Alexis Bolte took the first place spot in the distance event in 11:38.87 with her teammate Kylie Allemeier coming in at 11:55.66.
- 200 Freestyle - The Pirates claimed first, second, and third in the mid-distance race, and it was Krajca leading the pack at 2:06.04 followed by Delaney Alt at 2:08.46 in second place.
- 100 Backstroke - Anna Kate Goodson finished the 100 yard backstroke in 1:04.82, beating out her other competitor from UTPB by over five seconds.
- 100/200 Fly - Vargas took first in the 200 butterfly over UTPB by 4.62 seconds, clocking in at 2:21.78. Vargas again placed first later on in the meet in the 100 fly at 1:02.38.
- 50/100 Freestyle - Niva Maskey came first in a field where she was the solo Pirate among the UTPB swimmers. In the sprint she came in at 25.92, 2.39 seconds ahead of the next Falcon. Maskey continued her dominance in the 100 free, capturing first place at 56.41.
- 200 Backstroke - Samples took first in the event, defeating her three teammates and one other UTPB swimmer with a time of 2:13.49.
- 200 Breaststroke - Elaine Bentley swam against one other UTPB swimmer in the event and cruised to first place in two minutes and forty two seconds.
- 200 IM - Samples put together another great performance in the IM, blowing away the field with an almost seven second victory in 2:17.20.
- 200 Free Relay - To cap off the Pirates meet, the team of Maskey, Krajca, DeArmond, and Samples placed first in 1:45.51 against the Falcon's in second (1:51.07).
