Volleyball Beats Comets 3-0 in Home Opener

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University Volleyball team opened up the year at the Robertson Center on Thursday night, battling the University of Texas - Dallas Comets to kick off the SU Invitational. After a 3-0 start on the road, the Pirates showed no nerves at home as they were able to defeat the Comet three sets to zero and advance to 4-0 on the season.

"Getting a complete team win in the home opener is a good sign for this team as they grow together. Seeing our pin hitters stay aggressive and terminate the ball was important in crunch time a couple sets tonight, overall I think we did a nice job from the service line keeping the pressure on the Comets throughout the match," recaps Head Coach Don Flora.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Emily Marks and Carly Berkman led the Pirates squad in kills on the night with twelve a piece.
  • Freshman Middle Blocker Brooklyn Spikes put together five block assists and two kills.
  • Annika Flora assisted Pirate hitters twenty five times in the match, also having four block assists
NOTES
  • Christina Kuras joined Berkman and Marks with double digit kills, collecting ten in the game.
  • The Pirates hit at 27 percent against the Comets, the highest of the year so far.
  • At the service line, Southwestern went for six total services aces versus the Comets two.
UP NEXT
  • Pirate Volleyball continues with the SU Invitational on Friday night at 5:45 PM, facing off against the Pacific Lutheran Lutes back at the Robertson Center.
