Women's Basketball Battles Against Comets, Benitez and McCoy Combine for 35

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS -  The Southwestern Women's Basketball team competed in it's last home out-of-conference match up against the UT - Dallas Comets on Wednesday night. The Pirates went down fourteen points at the end of the first quarter but were able to bring it to twelve by the end of the second with a halftime score of 41-29. Southwestern went down 19 at the conclusion of the third (61-42), but a twenty point fourth quarter allowed the Pirates to bring it within six points with 3:16 remaining. Southwestern held the Comets to just twelve points in the fourth but it wouldn't be enough as UT - Dallas pulled away and took a 73-62 victory. 

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Adrianna McCoy concluded with a game-high nineteen points against the Comets, capping off her night with five rebounds, four assists and three steals. 
  • Trinity Benitez tied for second in the game in total points (16) while also stealing two balls and a team-high six rebounds. 
  • First-year guard Alexa Romero showed out as well for the Pirates, putting up fifteen points, and five rebounds. She was 6/7 from the free throw line. 
NOTES
  • The Pirates were 73.3% (22/30) from the free throw line as a team, their most free throws made of the season thus far. 
  • Southwestern also hit a season high in three point percentage at 46.2% (6/13) against the Comets.
  • UT - Dallas secured 37 rebounds, out rebounding the Pirates by thirteen (37-24).
